The BLT target audience as outlined by the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and Texas Health and Human Service Commission (HHSC) are women with children in SNAP eligible or participating households. All BLT programs focus on nutrition with an awareness of preventing obesity. The five focus areas in BLT programs for FY 2018 (October 1, 2017 – September 30, 2018) are:
- Increase fruit and vegetable intake
- Increase physical activity
- Improving access to fruits and vegetables (gardening)
- Food safety
- Food resource management (due to high rates of food insecurity)
